School Registered Nurse (RN) – Job Description
The School Registered Nurse provides general nursing and health services to students throughout the school day. The RN is responsible for assessing student health needs, providing routine and emergency care, administering medications and treatments as ordered, maintaining health records, and supporting a safe and healthy school environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide routine nursing care and first aid to students.
- Assess illnesses and injuries and determine appropriate next steps.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policy.
- Monitor students with chronic medical conditions, allergies, diabetes, seizure disorders, asthma, and other healthcare needs.
- Respond to medical emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and student health records.
- Review immunization and health documentation as required.
- Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
- Assist with student health screenings and other school health requirements.
- Follow infection-control procedures and New York State school health guidelines.
- Perform other general school nursing duties as needed.
Requirements: Active New York State RN license, current CPR/BLS certification, and ability to work independently in a school setting.
