Telemetry Float RN — Job Description
The Telemetry Float Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, high-quality nursing care to adult patients on telemetry and other assigned med-surg/step-down units as needed. This role “floats” between units based on staffing and census, delivering patient-centered care, continuous cardiac monitoring oversight, timely interventions, and clear communication with the care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for telemetry/med-surg/step-down populations.
- Interpret telemetry rhythms, recognize changes/alarms, and escalate appropriately.
- Administer medications, start/monitor IV therapy, and perform ordered treatments per policy.
- Coordinate care with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and ancillary services.
- Provide patient/family education, discharge planning support, and care transitions.
- Document accurately in the EMR and maintain compliance with safety protocols.
- Adapt quickly to varying workflows, patient acuity, and unit standards when floating.
Qualifications
- Active NY RN license.
- BLS required; ACLS required.
- 1+ year acute care experience; telemetry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong rhythm recognition, clinical judgment, communication, and flexibility.
Typical Environment
- Adult inpatient units: Telemetry, Med-Surg, ED Hold.
- Must have EPIC experience
- Nights (18:45-07:00)
